  • Suiting Up for the Canadian Cold

    November 03, 2014 3 min read

    Can you feel that?

It’s barely perceptible, but it is definitely there. That chill you feel in the air is Mr Autumn making his grand entrance. And with Mr. Autumn’s entrance comes the exit of Mr Summer and his favorite choices of lightweight wools, cottons and linens.

But the Soren Custom man says to that bitter nip in the air: “Yo. Bring it on.”

The reason is simple. This is the season to bring out the big boy arsenal. The kind of fabrics that your great granddaddy wore. Wool that looks like it is going to make you itch. Don’t worry, it won’t.

We are talking about heavy worsted wool that looks 3D. Wool that says only a man should wear me. If you think wool is only for coats, scarves and outerwear, let The4Guys at Soren Custom open your eyes and minds to the genre bending colours and winter textures we have in the studio. Yes, heavy worsted wool and outerwear are a championship team when matched together, but don’t forget about your go-to look – the suit.

Go take a look at the suits in your closet. Do they reflect the natural transition of the seasons?

    Hmm… We didn’t think so.

Boys, it’s time to step up your winter suit game. It is time for your first wool suit. No, not wool sport coat and slacks. Everybody does that.

Soren Custom isn't everybody. We are talking a full suit here. While we are at it, let's add a vest or some elbow patches in a contrast fabric. Speaking of contrast fabrics, get that vest in a contrast fabric and blow their minds while breaking some necks. When you see the drool-worthy and colourful winter selections that translate to the patented Soren Custom suit; Yeah buddy... Now that is what we’re talking about.

Are you as bored as we are with the sea of grey and black walking the streets of Toronto from October to April? Was there a memo that directed that all suits be either black or grey? Did we miss that? Here is where the Soren Custom man differs. Your style vocabulary and its expression in your attire is not limited to the season one finds himself in. In fact, the four-season environment in Canada is ripe for you to make your stylish mark no matter what the calendar says.

    Consider this.

A three-piece suit in a 350gr wool herringbone wears warmer then your lightweight wool overcoat (which, let's admit it, is either a shade of grey or black). So ditch the overcoat, combine your favorite scarf, leather gloves and dress boots with that thick, chunky Soren Custom worsted wool suit and watch the heads turn. It might be cold, but that is no reason for you not to be hot.

Can we talk to you gentlemen specifically about colour? If there is one thing you know about The4Guys of Soren Custom and colour is that we are… let's just say – we are not averse. Think back to your first Soren Custom “experience”. Maybe when you sat with Ellis and created your own “experience”, colour became your friend when your suit came to life.

This phenomena is not based on specific months or seasons. With over 300 fall seasonal fabrics to peruse, let Jason change your mind as to what a “winter suit” should be and more importantly how it should look. Leave yourself in the capable hands of Mark as he shows you how to mix heavy patterns and textures for a more refined look.

Guess what? Your main-man Edwin would love to engage you in a conversation as to why brown and orange are not the only colour options for the fashionable fall man who walks the streets of the T.Dot.

Are you open to discuss with us why every man should wear clothes that have been carefully curated by the season?

Once we help you decide on the foundational fall items like suits, shirts and ties you will be well armed to take on old man winter and all he can throw at you with the verve and vigor he is known for. Isn’t it funny?

We often are scared of winter in terms of meteorological extremes. However, we have confidence that winter is going to be scared of you.
